Where Did Our Emails Go? Making Sense of Your Inbox
If you’ve been wondering why you suddenly stopped receiving our weekly newsletters or prayer updates, I want to assure you right away: you are not alone, and you didn't do anything wrong.
Over the last few months, many in our church family have noticed our emails mysteriously vanishing or ending up in the dreaded "Spam" folder. It has been frustrating for you, and it has been just as frustrating for us trying to reach you! But there is a very good reason this has been happening, and the good news is that we have found the solution.
The War on Spam: What Changed?
Recently, major email providers like Yahoo and Gmail rolled out strict new safety measures. The goal of Google's new email protections is actually a great one: they want to protect you from scammers, phishing, and the massive amount of junk mail that clutters your inbox every day.
To do this, these providers started requiring organizations that send out large batches of emails (like our church newsletters) to carry a special, hidden digital "VIP Badge." This behind-the-scenes code proves to Google and Yahoo that the email is genuinely from us, and not a scammer pretending to be us. If an email doesn't have a perfectly matched badge, the provider acts like a strict security guard and throws the message straight into the spam folder—or blocks it entirely.
What We Did to Fix It
Because we use an external platform to send our beautifully designed newsletters to everyone at once, our emails were accidentally getting caught in this new, ultra-strict security net. We had the right intentions, but our digital badges weren't communicating perfectly with the new rules.
Last night, we fixed it. We went behind the scenes into our website's domain settings and manually installed the specific digital "keys" required by these email providers. By directly linking our newsletter platform to our website's official domain, we finally handed over the exact VIP Badges that Google and Yahoo are asking for. Moving forward, their security guards will recognize our church's emails as safe, authorized, and welcome, allowing them to drop right into your main inbox where they belong.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Email
As technology advances, keeping your inbox safe is going to remain a top priority for tech companies. Here are a few trends you can expect to see in the email world:
Smarter Spam Blockers: Providers will increasingly use Artificial Intelligence to instantly spot and block malicious emails before you ever even see them.
One-Click Unsubscribes: To give you more control over your own inbox, new rules mandate that bulk emails must have a highly visible, easy-to-use "unsubscribe" button, rather than making you jump through confusing hoops to leave a mailing list.
Constant Adjustments: As scammers get smarter, the digital "locks and keys" we use behind the scenes to send emails will have to continually adapt and update.
We are fully committed to keeping up with these trends so we can stay seamlessly connected with you. Thank you so much for your incredible patience as we navigated this invisible tech hurdle. Our communications are back on track, but if you ever find that you are missing an email from us in the future, please let us know!
