A Spicy Success: Recapping Our First Chili Cook-Off!

This past Friday, our church family gathered for our very first Chili Cook-Off, and what an incredible evening it was! With 250 people in attendance and 25 amazing chili contestants, the room was filled with warm fellowship, mouth-watering aromas, and a fantastic country theme. From the lively apple cider station to the packed dessert tables and, of course, pots upon pots of delicious chili, it was a night to remember.

The evening featured so much more than just great food. We were treated to fantastic live musical performances by Jill Schlosser, Tracy and Carolyn White, and David Wheeler, which perfectly set the tone for the night. A professional line dance group even joined us to teach some steps, getting everyone out on the floor to learn a new routine. Between the dancing and the food, guests also had a blast capturing memories at our country-themed photo booth.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated in the chili competition and to those who generously brought desserts to share. The competition was fierce, and we are so grateful to our dedicated judges—Julia Hayes, Lyle Pettigrew, Ron De Jonge, and Vern Schlosser—for taking on the delicious but difficult task of tasting all 25 Entries. Congratulations again to our winners: Dennis Carlson taking first place, George Caballero in second, and Sharon Acton in third!

Finally, an event of this scale would not be possible without the massive effort of our volunteers. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible social team, including Jill Schlosser, Pura and George Caballero, and Andrea and Mike Green. We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the kitchen volunteers and every single person who helped with setting up, serving, and breaking down the room to ensure our space was perfectly ready for Sunday services. Thank you all for making our first Chili Cook-Off an overwhelming success!
